Today I feel happy and that is a great blessing indeed. I am accountable for my own happiness and when I am happy I am contagious – that is I spread happiness all around me.
It doesn’t take much to be happy. Waking up alive and kicking is one big reason to smile. Alhamdulillah (Praises be to God) that I have yet another day to live and be human. Being human is a blessing indeed, a reason to be happy for we are indeed the best of creations as God Himself says.
I am happy too for my health for it is something I cannot take for granted. Good health is a gift and it is sweet. I am reminded that even though I am being treated for bipolar disorder, I am enjoying good health in numerous other areas – my heart, my lungs, my kidneys and more are working like clockwork without me controlling them. Subhanallah (Glory to God)
Where does the feeling of happiness come from? I believe it stems from an attitude of gratitude – being thankful for all the blessings that we enjoy. It can be as simple as being grateful for the effortless breath we take today, the egg sandwich we had for breakfast, the smile a random stranger bestowed upon us in the train, the beautiful drizzle and the cool weather at lunchtime, the new scarf that I wore today at work….. the list is endless and countless.
When there is gratitude and joy in our hearts we are in the position to be contagious, that is, spread happiness all around us.
Smile and the whole world smiles with you.
