Indeed, We have given you, [O Muhammad], a clear conquest
That Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow and complete His favor upon you and guide you to a straight path
And [that] Allah may aid you with a mighty victory.
It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers that they would increase in faith along with their [present] faith. And to Allah belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth, and ever is Allah Knowing and Wise.
From Surah Al-Fath [48: 1-4].
Last weekend, I attended Club HEAL’s peer support group session on “Memories”. I came energised, ready to share and listen. The session was an intimate one, myself, Yohanna, and a third peer. MashaAllah. It was small and beautiful and actually rather mind-blowing. I came prepared to impart the lessons I had learnt managing my illness. SubhanaAllah! I came out with so many lessons to learn from the two peers present and so very much to reflect upon!
There were two things that really stood out for me:-
Life is not pretty. It was never meant to be. Paradise is where pretty is – in full glory, zero ugliness. So whatever beauty there is in our lives, protect it, savour it, appreciate it, thank Allah endlessly for it, share it, love it, beautify it further, concentrate on that rather than the ugliness.
When we are ill, we are not accountable for what we have done. We were insane. Allah is More Forgiving and More Merciful than we will ever know now. Thus, let us forgive ourselves too after asking Allah for forgiveness and move on gracefully. When we are well, we focus ourselves on doing good things and keeping ourselves well and happy, and focus on gratitude and blessings.
May God forgive us.
May God grant us victory over our illnesses and other matters.
May Allah aid us all the time.
May Allah bless us with tranquility in our hearts.
May we increase in our faith when we are together.
May we be soldiers of earth, and soldiers of heaven.
